Nyakallo Phamuli

Nyakallo Phamuli
Nyakallo Phamuli is a 28-year-old Black enigma artist born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is a former Fine Arts student at the University of Witwatersrand. Regardless of unforeseen circumstances causing her departure from the institution, she is using the skills/ knowledge she had attained coupled by the very real life lessons she has learnt to advance her understanding of her positionality in the art realm and in the world. A born-again, self-taught art practitioner through the mediums of digital arts, painting, photography and videography, Zine and bookmaking as well as Risograph printing. Her practice: DAY INFINITY OF FIGURING THE FUCK I AM DOING IN THE [ACT] OF GIVING UP, WHEN THE DISCOURSE OF [THROWING IN THE TOWEL] IS NOT ENOUGH... is a day-to-day documentation of self-exploration in expressive arts. DAY INFINITY is also a platform that explores the healing components of expressive therapy (writing therapy, performance therapy, art therapy), to bring to the conversation of her own positionality and belonging with the surrounding environment by confronting these tumultuous experiences that have placed her in this undisclosed alternative state of being. She is also a third of the art collective INVADE, specializing in Riso Printing, Silk Screening, Book Designing and new forms of publication. The interest of INVADE is in the value of knowledge and power in different spaces.
