Pamela Bentley
Pamela is devoted to a tactile curiosity that explores an immersive dialogue of experience, movement & materiality. A Zimbabwean artist who left her home country for tertiary education in South Africa, Pamela's work is an investigation into the idea of home with a focus on movement, access and migration. Majoring in painting during a Fine Arts degree at Michaelis School of Art, Pamela's paintings flood viewers with colour and memory and draw on elemental forces of the earth and its richness, alongside the natural power of the sea. Her Home Affairs paintings commemorate the contrasting landscapes of Pamela's personal migration from land-locked Zimbabwe to the port city of Cape Town, South Africa. Paying homage to multiple perspectives of a voyage - her works speak to our internal landscapes, the warnings of danger as well as the solace of a safe harbour.
