Tazmé Pillay

Tazmé Pillay

Tazmé Pillay is a passionate, versatile and adaptable young artist who has a wealth of experience in multiple creative fields including the music, fashion and film industries.

Having graduated in Theatre & Performance (Hons) with Distinction from The University of Cape Town in 2017, Tazmé has gone on to establish one of Cape Town's most beloved nightlife events; The Death of Glitter. The Death of Glitter is an underground queer creative happening which seeks to promote visibility for queer artists working in music and performance, particularly those of colour. His keen natural anity for curation has fostered working relationships with a diverse group of young emerging alternative music talent, with artists Tzara, Rose Bonica, Queezy, Amy Lilley, Pure, Angel-Ho & Eve Rakow featuring on his lineups.

He works across a range of practices as a DJ and drag performance artist. His work on stage has seen him appear in the critically acclaimed revival of Rajesh Gopie's Out of Bounds, a production which won an Ovation Award at the 2016 National Arts Festival and garnered him a Best Actor nomination from BroadwayWorld.com. He has worked on screen in film and commercial projects. He has worked with a number of high profile creatives both local and international, including Alok-Vaid Menon, Pussy Riot, Gavin Krastin and Steven Cohen. Tazmé's connections have grown his arts scene in new and exciting ways; his fearlessness to collaborate has created a number of opportunities for local, up and coming artists to work alongside established and international artists in their field.

He is currently the lead editor of online music publication, The Playground.
