The declining state of our planet is incontestable. People are readily aware of this travesty but are not necessarily making a substantial effort to bring about real change. What psychological push is needed to achieve permanent and sustainable change?

Perhaps part of the answer lies in a new perspective on our environment, an acknowledgement of the infinite and life-sustaining benefits of nature. My hypotheses is that a new perspective changes the feelings you have in response to something, which in turn might impact on the actions you take.

Breathtaking Cape Town scenes punctuate my day. They lift me out of my daily routine and also sometimes transport me, reminding me of calm experienced in other beautiful spaces.

I set myself  the task of showing these landscapes and giving an insight to the magic I feel. I have tried to find a way to help the viewers of my art to see (and set) the scene through fresh eyes. The idea is to encourage them to embrace their innate curiosity in order  to reawaken an interest and love for their natural environment. I hope they will be encouraged to  look more carefully at the world around them. So often our immediate surroundings are a blur as we focus on the immediacy of work  and what we think will make us happy.

The thought process behind my technique was inspired by how I wanted it to be viewed. The concept is to give the fresh perspective of a child. because that is where our curiosity was first awakened. The process of using the child-art technique of scratching off a black layer to reveal colour or scene below, was a magical experience for me. The colours and surprises revealed were so satisfying. The scenes I painted below are shown through the landscape above, one place evoking another.
