Kay-Leigh Fisher & Nadia Myburgh
Kay-Leigh Fisher is a visual artist, curator and publisher based in Johannesburg. She holds an Honours in Curatorship degree from Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town (2020) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Witwatersrand (2019). Her research and practice focuses on themes and narratives of becoming, thinking through familiar relationships with objects and how they reinforce ideals around racial and gendered identity. Her portraits speak to a multiplicity of identities that exist within an individual. The artist as part of her practice creates publications as curatorial interventions which speak to the ambiguity of being and the unlearning that occurs in counter-cultural spaces. Fisher holds an Honours in Curatorship degree from Michaelis School of Fine Art, University of Cape Town (2020) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Witwatersrand (2019). Currently she is a Programme Associate at The Johannesburg Contemporary Art Foundation (JCAF) and held the post of Assistant Curator at the Constitutional Court‘s Art Collection, Constitutional Court of South Africa. Fisher is a co-recipient of the Bag Factory Artist Studios Young Womxn Studio Bursary (2023). Nadia Laila Myburgh, is a Johannesburg based artist and energy healer. She completed her BA (Fine Art) Degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in 2016 and went on to complete the Advanced Programme in Photography at the Market Photo Workshop in 2017. She works in and outside of liminal spaces, especially the spaces of the unseen in all of its configurations. Both her artistic and energy healing practices navigate these spaces, to find ways in which to re-member “lost” or “forgotten” aspects of being-ness. Within her artistic practice she is interested in navigating and understanding the ways in which cultural and ancestral knowledges, practices and legacies are preserved and the ways in which they are accessed through story-telling, re-memory work and dreaming. She has had work included in exhibitions such as the VI New Media Arts Festival - IVAHM ’17 (International Video Art House Madrid) (2017), FNB Joburg Art Fair 2017 [Cartier booth] – Collaboration between Market Photo Workshop and international jewellery company Cartier, was part of the group exhibition ‘No Other Country: The Gospel According to Chris Hani’ (2015) and was a finalist for Sasol New Signatures (2014 and 2015).
