“Firstly, why the exhibition title, ‘Green is not a Colour’? Mainly to arouse curiosity, however there is some logic behind it. I recently moved from Joburg to literally greener pastures, the KZN Midlands. For twenty years, my paintings had depicted the Karoo and Kalahari.
Little did I realise how complicated the colour green is. Firstly, there are hundreds of tones. And I am colourblind. I use no green paint, preferring to create various tones by mixing yellows and blues. Green does not exist on the Basic Primary Colour Chart (red, yellow and blue). Hopefully this show gives a taste of the deliberate transition from the arid Karoo to my studio at the Old Mushroom Farm, Karkloof, surrounded by a brand new very complex palette.” - Bruce Backhouse
This show runs from 15 - 26 April 2025.
