Guy Thesen (b. 1961, Knysna) is a South African artist known for his distinctive style and creative versatility. He earned a Diploma in Graphic Design from the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town (1983–1986) and began his career as a designer at Americom before moving to Neil Napper and Associates in Johannesburg. During this period, he contributed to high-profile projects, including the design of Ngala Lodges in Timbavati and Buffalo Valley Bushlodges in Knysna.
From 1992 to 1995, Thesen taught art at Oakhill School in Knysna before fully dedicating himself to a career in fine art in 2004. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Hergé, Henri Matisse, Paul Gauguin, and the rich tradition of South African San rock art, his work blends elements of figurative and abstract styles. Thesen’s art has been showcased in various solo and group exhibitions, primarily through Knysna Fine Art under the curation of Trent Read. He continues to live and work in Knysna, where he creates his art from his home studio.
