Hailing from Ondangwa, Namibia, Actofel Ilovu was born in 1984 and has established himself as a prominent visual artist, earning recognition for his work both within his home country and on the international stage. He began his artistic journey at the College of the Arts (COTA), where he honed his skills, and later advanced his studies at the University of Namibia (UNAM).
Ilovu’s artistic journey extends beyond the studio, as he actively participates in the vibrant art scene. He has exhibited in numerous group shows, showcasing his diverse talents, and his artistic vision has been presented in solo exhibitions at prestigious venues such as the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre and The Project Room Namibia.
His commitment to artistic development is further demonstrated through his involvement in workshops, including the Tulipamwe workshop in 2011, the Baker’s Bay artists’ retreat in 2022, and a Moleskine workshop led by renowned curator Simon Nyami in Zimbabwe in 2021. Through these experiences, Ilovu continues to evolve as an artist, contributing to the rich tapestry of contemporary art in Namibia and beyond.
