Gayle Trisha Were
Gayle Trisha Were is a young photographer and musician from Nairobi, Kenya. She is the founder of Gayle Were Photography, which specializes in event and fashion photography. She describes her genre as a celebration of black womanhood as she draws inspiration from the women around her. Through her lens, she aims to tell important stories of people from marginalized groups and showcase the beauty of her heritage and culture to the world. In doing so, bringing light to salient issues such as women’s rights and the plight of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as shifting the perspective of the world about her home country. Her project, “HIS WORLD, her battle” inspired by the rise of femicide cases in her country, is scheduled to be featured by the Through the Lens Collective exhibition in Johannesburg, South Africa.
