Judy Woodborne is an acclaimed artist and printmaker with a distinguished career marked by innovation and international recognition. She earned her Master of Fine Arts Degree with Distinction from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 1993. The body of work from her MFA received critical acclaim and is held in significant collections, including the Smithsonian Collection of African Art (USA) and the Sanlam Corporate Collection (SA).
Woodborne's artistic prowess was highlighted when she was selected as the ABSA Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees Festival Artist in 2007, for which she produced "The Garden of Eden," a unique series of paintings on gold leaf. Her curatorial talents are evident in "The Exquisite Corpse," a portfolio of 16 etchings she curated and published, which was selected for the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees 2009 and later exhibited by the Norval Foundation. She also served as a guest curator for the Woordfees in 2018 and 2019.
Internationally recognized, Woodborne has participated in numerous International Print Biennales, and her work is represented in various international public collections and museums. Her experimental approach to printmaking was showcased at the Salzburg Summer Festival, Austria, in 2015, and further explored in her series of experimental print constructions, "The Anatomy of the World," exhibited at Lizamore Gallery in 2018.
Her excellence in printmaking was affirmed in 2019 when she was awarded the S.C. Bes Romania S.R.L. prize at the International Contemporary Engraving Biennial, Romania, for her engraving "The Weaver." Most recently, her work was selected for the "Summer 2020" exhibition curated by the International Print Centre in New York, USA.
