The digitally-inspired Washington Kirika Njoroge's uniquely conceived work reverberates with his bold style and distinct representations of his millennial generation. Through his painting and future-focused Kirika Njoroge blends world views and cultures in the depiction of his characters to bring to life his unique portraits and abstracts in this exciting new body of work rendered in rich and life-giving hues. A critical contextual framework for the East African artist's new works is surpassing neo-Afro pessimism toward young people in particular and its effect on them. As as documentarian of their lives and dreams the artist chose to use his understanding of contemporary African society and youth to address the challenges young people face by affirming their dreams. How do they maintain their positivity, find joy and dream in a context historically deeming them as a `lost'er disaffected generation? The artist deliberately eclipses the negative global analysis and predictions of what young Africans are doomed to encounter and experience as a result of negative economic forecasts through his work. Far from being oblivious of these challenges and the legacy of African youth being viewed as disaffected, Kirika Njoroge is fully aware of the need to affirm young Africans in their identities and dreams to negate labels that dismantle their confidence and positivity. The result is a collection of works that sparkle and shine with dreams and positivity, self-ideation and a collective feeling of hope depicting Africa's urban creatives in step with heir peers globally. African youth are depicted in this body of work as engaged, disaffected or disconnected from their reality because of economic challenges. His works depict African youth as boldly expressive and vocal. The layered symbolism and positivity of his body of work intends to communicate hope as a generational statement with uplifting depictions of Black and African youth, creativity.
