Sunali Narshai

Sunali Narshai
Sunali Narshai is an independent artist and writer from Cape Town, South Africa. With a bold and graphic style, Narshai’s work oscillates in the space between art and design. Grounded in drawing, calligraphic tools are used in the process of mark-making; while her background in animation explores movement, form, and composition to produce modern and expressive abstractions. Her reiterative and often prolific practice references past and future work in a constant state of flux that shifts and evolves through experimentation and intuitive play. Unable to separate the self from the work, Narshai approaches the body and identity to undress the political–revealing an emotional and spiritual state of infinite wonder and possibility. Narshai graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Rhodes University in 2014 and is a PPC Imaginarium grant recipient. Her work has been exhibited at the National Arts Festival in Makanada, the Lift Off Global Film Festival, and in alternative art spaces in Cape Town and Helsinki. Centred on creating meaningful spaces in the arts, Narshai is a grant writer for creatives, collaborating with artists and filmmakers across Africa, Europe, and the US.
