Zhi Zulu (b. 1995) is an accomplished illustrator and designer dedicated to exploring and celebrating her cultural heritage through visual storytelling. Born in Durban and raised in Johannesburg, she holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Visual Communication from The Open Window Institute and is currently pursuing her Master's degree in the same field.
As the founder and owner of the freelance illustration studio, Zuluvisual, Zhi has established a distinct and impactful artistic voice. Her talent was recognised at a national level when she won a prestigious Gold Craft Loerie Award in 2018.
At the core of her work is a proud investigation of her Zulu culture. She creates contemporary visual representations that she believes are relevant to today's society. Looking forward, Zhi has a clear and ambitious goal: to make a lasting impact on the South African education sector. She aims to integrate her culturally inspired illustrations into the visual methods used for teaching literacy, hoping to entice others to discover the rich uniqueness of their own cultures while contributing to educational development.
