These corpulent figurines began as an interpretation of a hedgehog without its spines, a tribute to softness, and acknowledging our vulnerability. As I sculpted it, I couldn’t help but notice a resemblance to the Venus of Willendorf, and the (possibly counterintuitive) thought of a gay fertility doll came to mind.
They are my almost anthropomorphic, smooth, body positive, hedgehog homosexual fertility doll. A manifestation of love, but not the restricted heterosexual definition of it, not tied to notions of lineage and procreation nor governed by arbitrary rules. The ample body is soft and vulnerable.
Sit with them. They do not bite, or judge.
