Windswept

Much of my recent work comprises collages made up of decommissioned South African bank notes that have been shredded for disposal by the South African Reserve Bank. I was able to access and use this material following extensive consultation with SARB and on the grounds that the metaphor behind the works is the “recycling of value”. This makes the unique materiality of the artworks central to their meaning.

My work resonates with the idea of enormous wealth reduced to waste – but also probes notions of commodification, value and desire.
