Carmen Ford

Carmen Ford
Carmen lives and works in Port Alfred. She graduated from Rhodes in 2013 with an MA in Fine Arts. She undertakes freelance project-based work, including various projects for the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown/Makhanda (2012 - 2019). Her favourite print mediums are monotype for its fluid nature, and woodcut/linocut for their raw graphic quality. Inspired by early resistance art, protest art and propaganda images from South Africa and the former Soviet Union, Carmen’s work explores the political climate of South Africa through the metaphor of flying machines: helicopters, planes and fighting jets. She creates in her home-based studio and is represented by Guns and Rain in Johannesburg. In 2016, Carmen co-founded The Printing Girls.
