Rick Baloyi
I grew up at Tshivhuyuni village in Limpopo. My work is inspired by the culture and traditions in my home village but most importantly, by my family, the people that raised me.
I completed my BA in Visual Art at the University of Johannesburg in 2023 and am now currently awaiting graduation and my certificate award in May.
During the past few years I’ve been honing my skills and knowledge; now my art is recognized both nationally and internationally.
Throughout my career, I have participated in several art exhibitions and engaged in different types of art opportunities.
In 2019 I was selected to be part of the 2019 Talent Unlocked program which included mentorship and culminated in an exhibition at RMB|Turbine art Fair. Later in 2019 I received a scholarship award from Nedbank in collaboration with Arts And Culture Trust and DALRO, Which also included an exhibition at the Market Theatre with other finalists from different departments.
In 2020 I was invited to take part as an ALUMNI for Talent Unlocked at Turbine Art Fair. During the same year I also exhibited my works at Lizamore & Associates Gallery in a summer exhibition titled: OF THEE I SING, and another summer group exhibition at RK Contemporary titled: No Holds Bared.
In 2022 I was invited/commissioned by Nedbank and Arts and Culture Trust to make an artwork for the Nedbank international Polo event at Inanda with 3 other artists the exhibition was titled #NewNobility. During the same year, Nedbank also commissioned me and other artists to design artworks for their rebranding campaign.
I took part in the 2022 Turbine Art Fair with Lizamore & Associates Gallery and also took part in a group exhibition with Mashumi Arts Project.
In 2023 I took part in the Woordfees Festival exhibition and auction titled: Bubble, organised by Lizamore and Associates gallery in collaboration with Strauss & Co. This was held in Stellenbosch at the City Hall.
As of 2024 I have participated in a group exhibition titled 'What is home to you?' which took place at the Fireststation in Rosebamk and was also facilitated by Lizamore and Associates, this exhibition included prolific artist Mashudu Nevhutalu and upcoming artist Vanessa Tembane.
