Chumisa Fihla is a young South African artist from Masiphumelele, Cape Town. He is currently an artist in residence at the Centre for Humanities Research at the University of the Western Cape (UWC). A few words from Fihla as to why he is pursuing a career as an artist: “I am the kind of person that likes to work creatively and with my own hands. I grew up in a family that has artistic skills and is creative, but none of my siblings have ever been able to go further with their careers. I want to bring a change in my family and community. The other reason I want to study art is the fact that you can share your emotions, experiences, thoughts. I like that in the art world you get to make strong relationships and meet people who have different ideas and are willing to share.”
