Vasco Manhiça (b. 1978) is a Mozambican artist who was born in Nampula and grew up in one of the peripheral areas of Maputo City. His practice is informed by his extensive training in design, holding degrees in Communication Design from Medien College in Essen, Germany (2010), and in Graphic Design from the National School of Visual Arts in Maputo (1998).
An award-winning artist in his home country, Manhiça received first and second prizes from the prestigious Bienal TDM and MUSART early in his career. He has since built a significant international presence, participating in numerous workshops, artistic residencies, and exhibitions in South Africa, Germany, France, Holland, Nigeria, Portugal, and Senegal.
Manhiça has held several solo exhibitions in both Mozambique and Germany, including «Ponto de Vista» (2015) at the Centro Cultural Portugues in Maputo and «Pim-Pam-Pum» (2009) at Galeria Stadthaus Lechanich in Germany. His work is held in major public and private collections, including the National Museum of Art in Mozambique and the Telecommunications Museum of Mozambique (TDM).
