Beast as a Bull in a Blue Kimono

Beast was a character I brought into being in my series/exhibition, Beast at Home, in 2010. Beast is part of us, a powerful force of desire and mystery within us that is unknowable by us in much the same sense as the unconscious is. Beast is our animal part, uncontrollable but precious. As humans have long clothed ourselves to cover our bodies and also to present a 'grander' vision, in this watercolour, Beast appears as a bull - often the symbol of raw, male physical strength - clothed in a fine garment of exquisite design.
