Khotso Motsoeneng (b.1993, Free State)
I am a self-taught painter and printmaker. My background in photography has helped me develop a good
eye for colour and form. My work is focused on finding an abstract way to bring together my observation
of nature and my feelings about different colours and emotions. I am particularly inspired by woodgrain
and plant life as a metaphor for human development. My brightly coloured paintings are also a way for
me to explore my emotions. My work has been shown in several group shows in South Africa and is in
private collections both locally and internationally. I was a finalist for the Cassirer Welz Award in 2019
and the Emerging Painting Invitational Prize in 2022. My studio is in Johannesburg at the august house
artist studios.
