This is a painting of my middle child, who is also close to becoming an adult. As she sits, perched on the bow of a punt, I have imagined her to be reflecting - not only physically - but also emotionally on her future. The water is unclear - the river is downstream and meandering.
Rivers feature a lot in my work. This one holds great significance as it is part of the River Cherwell, that runs through Oxford, where my husband and I first met. We were 'revisiting' Oxford with our children, taking a trip down Memory Lane. It is interesting that this child aspires to creating memories of her own in this place, 'testing the waters' for herself.
