We The Faithful forms part of a series of film photographs entitled Available After Armageddon, which began in 2022. This series marked the beginning of Shannon's formal documentation and critical inquiry into the structures of organized religion and normalised cult-like behaviour in religion. Here, Shannon draws attention to the idealised and utopian doctrines within the religious body by quoting a phrase from the speaker's address. "We the faithful" was used to address members of the congregation in a way that not only presents a false sense of unity among the group but also serves as a command, insinuating that all those who choose to stray from the group's doctrines will in essence be 'othered'. Instances of 'othering' via isolation occur in religious groups where followers of a faith are forced to abandon and cease forms of contact with a non-believer.Â
Provenance: We The Faithful (2023) was exhibited at This Kind of Light (2024) at Koop Gallery.Â
