Marlene de BeerPhD Visual Arts (US)Marlene is a PhD graduate in Visual Arts (US) and a qualified goldsmith. Apart from her participation in the genre of contemporary jewellery, her artistic interest includes sculptural objects in a selection of materials such as porcelain, resin, and bronze. Her research interests include an exploration of female subjectivity and agency, and the notion of a feminine Imaginary and Divine. From a phenomenological perspective, meaning making and sublimation as an active agent is directly dependant on the subjective lifeworld of the subject. Contemporary jewellery can serve as coded messages with which to challenge and comment on prescriptive norms.
