The artwork was created using charcoals, oil pastels, acrylics, spray paint, tea/teabags on acid free canvas. The artwork was inspired by the daily lived experience and childhood memories of having to go fetch water during my upbringing at my grandparents rural Homestead. The work explores the cultural practices that I grew up within the environment to which I've lived and it investigate the how the process has influenced my growth and identity to the adult i am now. However the work also conveys the socio-political and economic issues faced by some segments of our communities such as poverty and how the underprivileged bears the brunt of water scarcity in order to drink, cook and hygiene purposes. The work reflect on the realities faced by many Africans and in essence the work epitomizes their resilience in the midst of their adversities. I hope the viewer will have a sense of compassion to the affected and be willing to give you helping hand when there's a need.
