The work took shape at the beginning of the Covid pandemic. A State Of National Disaster was declared, under the Disaster Management Act. It was horrific to be limited movement and forced to isolate.Sibusiso Gcaba got triggered by memories of dreadful life experiences resurfaced. With time to reflect, he gathered courage to bring forth what was stored and forgotten in his subconsciousness. He photographed at night while breaking curfew laws. He hoped to face his demons in the dark, and over time he consciously made an attempt to bring his "Darkness" to light with this visual expression.
These images aim to illustrate the after effects of experienced anguish. Some of these symptoms of suffering come from his spiritual awakening that manifested harshly at the time, Where he was forced to make sense of the visual experience in the metaphysical realms. It is said that trauma in other dimensions can be inherited or passed from generation to generation, and it is the responsibility of the enlightened to cleanse the spirit. He was forced to look deep into his psychological and spiritual make up. With the fear that if all is left unattended the foundation might infect his consciousness to self destruction.
