Ayola Goxo
Ayola Goxo (b. 1999, Eastern Cape) is a self-taught artist who spent most of early childhood in the quaint town of Butterworth before relocating to East London during his adolescence. His creative journey blossomed at an early age, fueled by an innate talent for drawing that he carried into adulthood. At the age of 13, Ayola made his first acrylic landscape painting and five years later began working at Belgravia Art Centre, where he developed a strong affinity for oil paint.
To further pursue his passion, Ayola enrolled at the Open Window Institute in Gauteng to study design technique. Drawing inspiration from surrealist and other avant-garde movements, Ayola channels his artistic expression into exploring the unseen realms of the mind. His work delves into the depths of the subconscious, employing interactive compositions to convey emotions and messages that transcend conscious understanding.
Ayola's art serves as a conduit for exploring the mysteries of the human psyche, inviting viewers to embark on a journey of introspection and discovery. Working largely in the medium of oil paint, he combines realism and surrealism to explore the evolution of humanity, the innate psychological and emotional changes we undergo as we progress in modern society. His work raises poignant questions about what it means to evolve as a human species, as we adjust our values and patterns to keep pace with societal changes.
Through his art, viewers are driven to look inward and challenge their thoughts and feelings about the evolution of humanity in modern society. Ayola's artistic expression is both introspective and evocative, blending technical skill with profound thematic exploration.
