Danielle Hewlett
Danielle shares that she wanted to be an artist from the time she was 8 years old, and feels she was fortunate to grow up supported in this career, surrounded by art, and inspired by artists, such as Alexis Preller, her uncle. She has now been practicing art for 12 years, after having studied at the Surry Institute of Art and Design.
Danielle finds her inspiration in people. “I am hugely inspired by everyday people and their stories”, she says “and I want to tell those stories in paint… Normally I will start with inviting a subject into my studio for a photo session and getting to know them, then I spend a good while with the images and move quite quickly to getting the work onto the canvas, normally starting quite messy on a canvas that is splashed with paint and from there I begin to find the story I am trying to uncover.”
