Kiveshan Thumbiran
Kiveshan Thumbiran is an M-Tech qualified artist/designer, whose work and research currently looks at himself as diaspora of Indian migrants (both indentured and non), and tries to determine the position of the “Indian body” in contemporary South Africa. He asked the question, ‘Who are Indians and why do we not belong?’
He uses Hindu imagery as the basis for his work as it was something that was a major part of his upbringing, moving from using his own body to depict scenes and figures in Hindu mythology to statues and objects of worship to depict his experience as Indian Hindu diaspora in South Africa.
