Style Kunda
Kunda was born in Luanshya District, Zambia in 1953. His artistic journey began with sign writing in 1968 and he transitioned to painting on canvas in 1977. For abstract paintings he uses acrylic paint while he leans towards oil paint for his landscapes. An eye-opener into the world of art found Kunda in 1979 when he joined the Art Foundation workshop at Evelyn Hone College in the capital city Lusaka. Kunda immersed himself in the library, finding gratification from art books, and he later worked as a Gallery Attendant at Mpapa Gallery. He also served on the Mbile International Artists worksheet committee as a Treasurer and Secretary until 1995. Kunda has also explored art from the stance of a curator between 2012 and 2013 as one of the lead curators at the United Nations Tourism hosted in Zambia.
Kunda has exhibited at home and also made strong impressions both in the region and internationally, while his artworks are held in many national and international galleries.
Kunda’s works are also held in local and private collections including Chaminuka and Lechwe Trust. Kunda is the recipient of 3 Ngoma awards presented by the National Arts Council and has proven himself to be a gem of contemporary Zambian artists.
