Wilhelm Saayman

Willie Saayman, born in Robertson, Western Cape, in 1962, is an established contemporary South African artist. Since his first solo exhibition at the Association for Visual Arts in Cape Town in 1990, Saayman has built a significant career with numerous solo shows in both Johannesburg and Cape Town.

From the outset of his career, his work garnered institutional recognition. A video piece from his debut 1990 exhibition, titled Channel Zero – An Evening’s Viewing, was acquired by the Iziko South African National Gallery, highlighting his early engagement with new media. Over the years, he has continued to evolve his practice, gaining acclaim for his work in other mediums. He was a featured artist in the seminal 2010 group drawing exhibition, Draw Links, at GALLERY AOP, from which several of his drawings were acquired by the prestigious Johannesburg Art Gallery. Willie Saayman currently lives and works in Cape Town.
