Mpumi Peter
Born and raised in Springs, (Ekurhuleni) Johannesburg. Graduated from the University of South Africa with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. I also have a Professional Diploma in Graphic Design and Digital Marketing. I am a self-taught emerging artist with the love and passion for art. I do not limit myself to one medium, style or concept as inspiration and ideas change. My creativity is expressed in many ways, but my preferred medium is oil painting because of its flexibility as well as the fact that it can be used in many ways from thin to thick impasto. My paintings are influenced by life and the need for contentment in an age of discontentment. My pieces are a reminder that no matter how bad situations get they will change but there is a need for the renewal of the mind daily hence we need to be thankful and celebrate were we are and be patient for what’s to come and to rise and make the most of the day we are given. I want my paintings to invoke a sense of happiness, calmness, and a sense of joy during all the different situations we are faced with that speaks to both me and to others. I also bring my personal love for African fashion into some of my artworks by using African fabrics and patterns. I am influenced by my continent; my surroundings and how black people embrace their blackness. Each piece I create is a celebration of my African heritage embracing my culture.
