Phendu Kuta

Phendu Kuta is a multidisciplinary creative, curator, and writer, as well as the founder of Unlabelled Magazine. She created Unlabelled Magazine as a platform to document contemporary African culture and identity through the lens of photography, as an archive for future generations.
Through her writing, she has contributed to documenting South African culture and the creative industries, with bylines in various Pan-African publications—including curating recurring features in VISI from 2022 to 2024 titled Rising Stars, where she highlighted up-and-coming South African interior designers and artists.Â
She has also contributed to the 2023 academic publication FASHION+ : Inclusive Articulations and Practices in Design, Communication & Development - writing on the intersection of culture and creative expression, in the chapter Fashion, Visual Art, and Style.
Her platform, Unlabelled Magazine, has showcased compelling Pan-African visual stories, which in turn have granted her opportunities to share insights on the arts and culture sectors at events hosted by local and global platforms such as the European Commission’s International Colloquium ‘Culture for the Future’.
Alongside creative teams within Unlabelled, she has also collaborated on content creation with local and international brands. Using her creative voice, she engages with cultural topics that span both the contemporary and the historical, merging her insights with an evolving perspective.
