The painting is based on a snapshot of the artist as a child, cropped so as to show only the dress, negating specific identity. One senses that the painting is of a child posing for a photograph, the light and overexposure of the original photograph obscruing details. The emphasis, rather, is on the nature and essence of the photogrhapic itself, of its capturing of a trace of the past which disappears at the click of the shutter. The specific photo-based painting technique enhances the fleetingness of memories through its deliberate paintierly evocation of the photographic medium and the old black and white photograph.
