Three generations (with Hetta Preller), 1948

The artwork forme part of the artist's 2020 exhibition titled Almost no Memory. It is a haunting translation of an old black and white  shapshot. Time is embedded in the very application of paint on canvas through which the artist accentuates the fragility of the photograph. The transience of the moment is enhanced by the scale of the painting and the painting technique which places the emphasis on the vagaries of memory and the inability of the photograph to fully capture a moment in time.
