Photographs are one of the most common and travelled items one takes when leaving home. As a second-generation immigrant these become even more precious when you have no access to your home country. Ink Alchemy I (Mother's embrace) was inspired by the contents of Marie-Lorraine Kalassa's family photo album. The ink used to paint Ink Alchemy I (Mother's embrace) is made from avocado seeds which hold deep historical significance to of Marie-Lorraine Kalassa's mother's childhood home. The organic material and media speaks to the idea of the intangible and of fleeting memory.
