The Gathering

The idea behind The Gathering was to create an army of women borrowing from the African proverb that it takes a village to raise a child. Furthermore, the women are mirroring each other with the placement of symbols of culture at the forefront standing together in solidarity. The Gathering also stands to evoke the cultural tradition of family gatherings where family stories are often exchanged and heralded by our grandparents. Often imparting wisdom and contributing to our identity formation while shedding light on a broader experience of black lives.
