Bonginkosi Thato Mavuso was born in 1988 in Pimville, Soweto. In 2007 he received his Diploma in
Graphics & Animation, in Parktown College Campus and the following year a BA in Visual Arts &
Printmaking at University of Johannesburg. He's preferred style is Abstract-Expressionism and
Portraiture with the usage of mixed media to execute his work. Mavuso has been included in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Call for Creatives for raising awareness for the Covid-19
Pandemic. In 2017 Bonginkosi was a resident artist at BOCOMO ART CENTER where he offered art
lessons and art related community projects in and around Kliptown.
Currently the artist is working with Soweto Kliptown Youth (SKY) engaging in artistic programs with children. Mavuso's work can also be seen on walls/murals in and around Soweto and Johannesburg in which he has collaborated with several artists of his caliber, Graphic and Fine artist's alike. His numerous group exhibitions include Joburg Fringe, panel selected group exhibition, The Art Room, Jhb, and Turbine Art Fair, Gallery 2, Jhb. He is one of the founders of MAKEBA Designs & Collectables (PTY) Ltd in 2021 in partnership with Kebaabetswe Letau who's a wood worker and designer. He is currently working on a series of paintings for the Nyrox Sculpture Park late 2021, and a collaborative exhibition in Zollikon, Switzerland which is part of a 6 month residency program.
