Lesedi Modupi, 22, hails from Johannesburg. As a child he spent hours sketching portraits of those close to him. In high school he began to consider art as a career when he received his first payment for drawing a portrait of his teacher’s daughter. Fuelled by determination Modupi embarked on a self-taught path, honing his skills through hours of practice and experimentation in his home studio.
Drawing inspiration from his surroundings and the beauty of Black children, his art is a fusion of traditional techniques and modern aesthetics. While proficient in various artistic mediums, his preferred medium is the ballpen, which he uses to create compositions on Fabriano paper. Modupi was selected to participate in the RMB Talent Unlocked mentorship programme for 2024, which culminated in his debut gallery exhibition at the Art & About gallery in Sandton.
