Drew Minter is a visual artist and LGBTQIA+ activist whose practice explores identity and belonging through painting and sculpture. His work maps queer “safe spaces” across the Eastern Cape – sites of authenticity, memory, and community. Using UVcuring nail gel, inspired by his mother’s home salon, Minter merges personal history with contemporary queer expression, bringing elements of his childhood sanctuary into new environments.
He holds an MA in Fine Art from Nelson Mandela University and has exhibited at the Pretoria Art Museum. Minter was a Sasol New Signatures Top 100 finalist in both 2021 and 2023 and continues to advocate for queer visibility in South African art.
