Tinsae Mesfin (b. 1998) is an emerging contemporary artist from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He is a 2022 graduate of the renowned Ale School of Fine Art and Design at Addis Ababa University, where he specialized in sculpture. Since graduating, he has dedicated himself to a rigorous studio practice, developing a distinctive and expressive artistic voice.
Mesfin's work is deeply influenced by key modern art movements, skillfully blending the structural innovations of Cubism and the bold colours of Fauvism with an overarching love for expressionism and figurative art. He draws inspiration from a wide range of sources—including photographs, friends, and his immediate surroundings—channeling the legacies of masters like Picasso and Matisse into a visual language that is uniquely his own.
His work has been actively exhibited in the Addis Ababa art scene. In 2024, he held his solo exhibition, “Beyond the Surface,” at Atmosphere and participated in the “New Voices” group exhibition at the Hayatt Regency. His work was also featured in the “Addis Art Exhibition” and his graduate show in 2022, marking a dynamic start to his professional career.
