Michaele van den Heever
Michaele van den Heever is a South African visual artist working primarily in monotype and print-based processes. Her work explores faces, silhouettes, and shadowed forms to navigate presence, absence, and emotional visibility. Drawn to limitation and imperfection, she works by adding and removing ink, allowing erosion, erasure, and restraint to shape each image. Faces without eyes recur in her practice, refusing direct engagement and instead holding tension, quietness, and ambiguity. Through a reduced palette and an intuitive process, her work reflects inner landscapes, mental states, and the subtle marks left by lived experience.
