Moeketsi Motlhabe (b. 2003, Centurion, South Africa) is a visual artist currently based in johannesburg. Born and bred in Pretoria, Motihabe developed a deep appreciation for the cultural and historical layers embedded within his surroundings. He completed his secondary education in 2020 and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of fine arts at the University of Johannesburg ,with a primary focus on printmaking.
Motihabe's printmaking and drawing practice engages with the complex legacies of colonial architecture in South Africa-structures whose beauty and craftsmanship stand in stark contrast to histories of land dispossession, exploitation, and systemic oppression. Rooted in his identity as a Black South African descendant of the colonized, he navigates the tension between appreciating formal elegance and confronting the violent realities these buildings embody. Through the layered processes inherent to printmaking, reproduction, multiplication, and overlay.
