Boitshepo Maraamele (b. 1990 in Kasane, Botswana—a region famed for the Chobe River and its significant elephant populations) is an accomplished artist now based in Maun. Her deep connection to Botswana's landscape and heritage forms the bedrock of her artistic practice. As a Motswana woman married to a Bushman (San) man, who notably taught her to paint, Boitshepo's perspective is uniquely shaped by the confluence of these cultural influences.
Working primarily in oil paints, she intricately explores the connections between nature, culture, and identity. Her paintings capture the delicate balance between her humanity and wildlife, reflecting the harmony gained from living close to nature and drawing inspiration from the ancient rhythms of the land and the wisdom of its people. The strength, resilience, healing, and nurturing spirit of women, along with their everyday chores, are central themes in her creative journey.
Boitshepo's unique style and intricate detail have garnered recognition; she received a "Special Award" from Sir Alexander McCall Smith and exhibited her work internationally at The Afrikin Art Fair in Miami in 2024, representing The Space Botswana Art Gallery.
