Sheila Bayley

Artist Sheila Bayley

Sheila Bayley (b. 1986, Nairobi) was raised in a culturally diverse environment that continues to shape her artistic practice. Holding a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the United States International University–Africa, she is a self-taught artist whose work explores themes of identity, urbanization, and the delicate balance between nature and nurture in shaping human behavior.

Working primarily with acrylic and paper collage on canvas—and on paper for her smaller pieces—Sheila draws inspiration from memory, personal experience, and poetry to create evocative compositions that invite viewers on an introspective journey of thought and emotion.

In 2021, she was the guest artist at the Kobo Open Studio Art Sale & Exhibition in Nairobi. Two years later, she presented her first solo exhibition at Peponi Hotel in Lamu, followed by her first international duo show at Gallery Brulhart in Geneva, Switzerland. She has also participated twice in the Affordable Art Fair organized by the National Museum Society of Kenya. Her artworks are held in private collections locally and internationally, including in Zanzibar, the United States, France, the UAE, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Switzerland.

Sheila is deeply committed to the growth and development of the East African art scene and envisions establishing an educational system that positions art as both a life skill and a viable career path. As her practice continues to evolve, she remains open to local and international collaborations, residencies, and exhibition opportunities.
