William Joseph Kachinjika is a Harare-based artist working with textiles and found materials to explore memory, hybridity, and the transformative power of objects. Inspired by childhood lessons in basket weaving from his grandmother, he creates large-format woven pieces from rope, cables, and mutton cloth, bridging indigenous craft and contemporary practice.
His series Country Game Game reflects on Zimbabwe’s power crisis, resilience, and history, drawing on a childhood game that combines geography, culture, and play. Kachinjika trained at the School of Visual Art and Design, National Gallery of Zimbabwe, and continues his practice at Mbare Art Space under mentorship from Moffat Takadiwa and others.
