Al Luke (b. 1981) is a Cape Town-based artist known for his expressive abstract style that blurs the lines between street art and the gallery space. With a background in graphic design and a long career in advertising, Luke channels his creative energy into paintings and murals characterized by bold, intuitive line-work and a dynamic use of colour. Using markers and spray paint as his primary tools, he explores the limitless and evolving nature of abstraction.
Since dedicating more time to his personal art practice around 2017, Luke has become a prominent figure in the South African contemporary art scene. He has exhibited extensively in solo and group shows, including at the Turbine Art Fair and WORLDART gallery. Beyond his individual work, he is one half of the acclaimed artist duo Mrs + Mr Luke, a collaboration with his wife, Faatimah Mohamed-Luke. Together, they create vibrant, layered artworks that celebrate connection and human emotion. Luke is also a co-founder of the creative studio Black Koelewijn, further cementing his role as a multifaceted creative force.
