Anthony Azekwoh

Artist Anthony Azekwoh

Anthony Azekwoh (b. 2000, Lagos, Nigeria) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist and author whose practice spans digital and traditional painting, sculpture, and storytelling. His work is rooted in African folklore and mythology, reimagining ancestral narratives to explore transformation, identity, and cultural continuity.

Azekwoh’s artistic journey began with writing before he taught himself to draw as a child—an early act of creative reinvention that would come to define his practice. His work often draws from fantastical realms, using mythic figures and historical references to condense shared facets of the African experience into visual form. Through both digital and physical mediums, he blurs the boundaries between tradition and technology, crafting a language that speaks to collective memory and the evolving nature of storytelling in contemporary Africa.

His recent exploration of sculpture marks a new phase in his practice, centered on immortalization and cultural reverence. By reinterpreting historical figures and symbols of Nigerian identity, Azekwoh celebrates the power of art to preserve heritage and platform untold stories.

He is the founder of Anthony Azekwoh Studios, a creative hub that merges art, literature, and technology to bring authentic African narratives to a global audience. His work has been exhibited in Lagos, Abuja, London, Tokyo, and Denver, and features in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide.

A recipient of the Awele Trust Prize (2017) and Loose Convo Grant (2018), Azekwoh’s clientele includes Meta (Facebook), Rocket League, and musicians such as Masego, Jae5, Show Dem Camp, Adekunle Gold, and Blaqbonez. His practice has been featured in Yahoo Finance, Culture Custodian, Techpoint Africa, and Olongo Africa, among others. In 2020, he established The Rosemary Fund, a grant supporting emerging Nigerian artists—extending his belief that creativity, technology, and storytelling together form the foundation of Africa’s cultural future.

He lives and works in Lagos, Nigeria.
