Claudia Gurwitz
Claudia Gurwitz was born in Cape Town. She is a yoga teacher & contemporary artist. Claudia attended Herzlia High School where she discovered her love of art under the tutelage of Jill Joubert. Following school, Claudia explored various mediums, studying ceramics at Barbara Jackson’s studio, mosaic with Lisa Finberg and printmaking at Ruth Prowse.
After completing 2 years towards a BAFA at Michaelis, UCT in 1996, Claudia left the University to do her Yoga teacher’s training and completed national certifications in various holistic disciplines.
Among several other exotic destinations, Claudia has made 2 trips to India to expose herself to, and explore the roots of the yoga discipline and its founding culture. Since 1997 Claudia has run her own established yoga centres in Oranjezicht, Cape Town, and Riebeek Kasteel, in the Swartland.
After her 9 year journey into the healing arts, Claudia returned to painting and a three-year mentorship under Julia Teale at Spencer Street Studio.
Claudia has embraced working as a professional artist since 2007, adopting Riebeek Kasteel as her hometown. In 2016-2020 she participated alongside the other established local Riebeek artists in the annual collaborative art event, Solo Studios. Claudia’s work features in collections such as Old Mutual, Spier Estate, University of Cape Town, Countess Antonia Labia Hardres-Williams, Hout Bay Manor and Nando’s UK. In 2019 Claudia returned to Cape Town where she now lives and creates.
