Daniel Oruwhone

Artist Daniel Oruwhone

Daniel Oruwhone (b. 1996) is a Nigerian visual artist based in Lagos, working primarily with oil on canvas and drawing. His practice explores themes of vulnerability, intimacy, memory, and identity through sustained engagement with the human figure.

Oruwhone’s work centres the Black male body as a site of emotional inquiry, examining how masculinity is shaped by social expectation, performance, and interior experience. Drawing on existentialist philosophy and lived observation, his paintings approach figuration as a method of reflection rather than representation, foregrounding stillness, exposure, and psychological presence.

He holds a Diploma in Art and Design from The Polytechnic Ibadan and has participated in various workshops, residencies, and group exhibitions in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His recent solo exhibition was presented in Paris. Oruwhone’s ongoing bodies of work include Baring the Self and Exposure: The Weight of Blame.
